Just an update on our health insurance. Since 2010 I have been buying large deductible individual health insurance for our healthy family of four. As I have written about since the passage of the Affordable Care Act/Obamacare our premiums have risen about 80%. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield usually blames this on the regulatory environment plus generic underwriting.
Now I have received a notice stating that due to the Affordable Care Act/Obamacare Anthem will no longer offer such a plan. We would have to switch from a PPO to an HMO. Anthem You Are Cancelled
Coincidentally, I also received another notice saying just the opposite from Anthem – just pay the premium and keep your plan. Anthem Do Not Worry Letter
I am not particularly worried yet, because I assume I can find something on the Colorado Exchange in October when it opens. But it really is outrageous to give an exemption to big companies, but run individuals through this completely disorganized process. I cannot imagine what the average blue-collar person on a tight budget is experiencing dealing with this confusion.
Also, Senator Bennett has never responded to my letter expressing concern about the Affordable Care Act/Obamacare posted on the blog.
